THE TIMING OF READING THE DUROOD SHAREEF.... (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
Occasion in which recitation of Durood Shareef is"Farz" and on which is "Waajib"
Recitation of Durood Shareef once in whole life is obligatory (Farz) and on each mentioning and hearing of the Blessed name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
in a sitting, gathering is essential (Waajib). For example, if the Holy Prophet's name is mentioned or heard in a sitting, gathering a hundred times then Durood Shareef should be recited every time. However, it is permissible to recite Durood Shareef later if one mentioned or heard the blessed name of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
and could not recite Durood Shareef the very time. The occasion at which time is recitation of Durood Shareef "Mustahab" It is "Mustahab" (commendable act) to invoke Allaah's blessings on the Holy Prophet (recitation of Durood Shareef) as profusely as one can. (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
Undoubtedly, one can not gain so many blessings and benefits from Du'aa for oneself as he earns by reciting Durood Shareef. Invocation of Almighty Allaah's blessings on the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
is, no doubt, a Du'aa for the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
but actually it is for his whole Ummah because every believer is spiritually attached to him. It is no denying the fact that one talks frequently about and speaks high of his ideal. The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
is the ideal of ideal ones. So his "Zikr" (renown, praise) should surpass all others' Zikr i.e. Allaah's benedictions and blessings should be invoked on him extensively. The religious scholars have described the recitation of Durood Shareef on all important occasions at the outset of learning, reading and teaching particularly "Ahaadees Shareef (Prophetic sayings) should be preceded and followed by Durood Shareef, on writing a question or "Fatvaa" (religious verdict), on writing a book, at the time of 'Nikaah" (marriage) and engagement and when starting or undertaking a big or important work.
(صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) The famous tradition amongst all on Salawaat:
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)
was asked by Hazrat Umar bin Kaab [Radhi Allaahu anhu]: "Yaa Rasool ul- Laah, I say excessive salawa'ats on you. After all my compulsory prayers, how much should I devote on salawa'ats?" He (Peace & Blessings of Allaah Kareem be upon him) said : "As you wish".Hazrat Umar : "One fourth?" He said: "As you wish but if you increase, it is better for you. " Hazrat Umar [ Radhi Allaahu anhu]: "Half?" He (Peace & Blessings of AllaahAlmighty be upon him) said : "As you wish but if you increase, it is better for you." Umar [Radhi Allaahu anhu]: "Two third?" Hesaid : "As you wish but if you increase, it is better for you. "Hazrat Umar [ Radhi Allaahu anhu]:: "I will spend all my excessive time reciting salawaats!" He (Peace & Blessings of Allaah Kareem be upon him) said :
"In that case, you will be freed from cares and your sins will be forgiven."
